About Joshua
I graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a B.A. in International Affairs with a focus on Security Studies and a minor in Political Science. In real life, I’ve spent some time spent in Kazakhstan, and retain the desire to travel throughout the region, and my professional background includes many years in defense contracting.
In addition to writing for Registan.net, I founded The Conjecturer, a weblog with a much broader focus on International Relations in general (though it is mostly focused on security), along with other pet hobbies of mine like books and music. I am also the roundup editor for Afghanistan for Global Voices Online.
I am: a native speaker of English, decent at French, and am learning Russian at an abysmal pace when not consumed with my job or writing.
I currently live in a nameless Midwestern metropolis. Nothing I write here in any way reflects upon my current, past, or future employers or their clients, nor is it in any way indicative of their views, policies, or ideas. If you have a problem with something I write, deal with me, not any of them.
In 2006 I was named, among others, Time Magazine’s Person of the Year.
I can be reached via email: joshua [dot] foust [at] gmail [dot] com.

Joshua! I was really surprized that people in UK read Aitmatov. He is one of my favourite writers and I have read “One day lasts…” twice (of course, I am from Kirgisistan : ) )
