I just stumbled across the most bizarre rendition of Central Asian history, sure to both titillate and horrify all CA enthusiasts. Witness ‘Afuganisu-tan’, a comic-book geopolitical primer for Japanese teens, on the plight of little ‘Afu’, an unfortunate girl, surrounded by neighbors with strong personalities, who ‘trips and falls a lot.’ All the regional players are similarly rendered as girls (except the Al-Nyeda, who are feral cats) via ‘moe anthropomorphism‘ (You learn something new every day!), as listed on Wikipedia:
Tajikis-tan (たじきすタン, Tajikisu-tan)
A salt-of-the-earth Edokko type, quick to argue and quick to make up. Has girlish tastes.
Turkmenis-tan (とるくめにすタン, Torukumenisu-tan)
A girl with a mysterious personality – one never knows her true thoughts.
Meriken (めりけん, represents the United States)
The richest person in the neighborhood. Good in a fight, and never doubts her own sense of justice.
After being bitten by the feral Nyeda cats, Meriken’s ‘fair skin is injured’ and gets extremely scary. But if such cutesy-ness is too much for you, check out Stalin vs. Hitler. Apparently, Stalin was a total badass.

Cute! I wanna see Palestine rendered the same way, haha.
Check out the two panels on the right -
Northern Alliance is to Ahmad Shah Massoud with flowers
[just as]
Tayaribani is to … Robocop in a beret?
Masu-sama!
Masu-sama?
Masu-sama!!
Didn’t realize that the Japanese loved Ahmad Shah Massoud so much. Anyway, I am completely blown away. Who is the target audience, anyway? And that Stalin vs. Hitler comic was just brilliant.
A little surprising that the Stalin comic was published as recently as 2000.
