Uzbekistan has “uncovered” yet another Tajik espionage plot. (For the earlier arrest and further background, see this post.)
Furqat Tuigunov, who was arrested by the Uzbek National Security Service, has reportedly admitted to being hired by the Tajik Security Ministry to conduct secret missions and assassinate “certain individuals” in Uzbekistan.
That sounds almost exactly like what the last guy was charged with.
In another sign of Uzbekistan’s love for its Tajik neighbors, Uzbekistan has cut off gas to Dushanbe and a handful of major companies. In response, Tajikistan stopped the transport across its territory of gas to eastern Uzbekistan.

Gosh, if Uzbekistan isn’t careful, it’ll end up with a Tajik president.
I don’t know if this is typical or whatnot, but I took a flight a couple days ago from Bangkok to Tashkent on Uzbek Airways, and the plane made a bizarre U-turn in the last hours to seemingly fly around Tajik airspace to get into Tashkent. Has the Tajik government revoked permission for Uzbek commercial airplanes to fly over Tajik airspace?
