Borat’s Defenders

Borat has a surprising defender in Kazakhstan, the president’s daughter. She appears to understand perfectly that the response to Borat was far worse than any of the jokes made by the character.

Darigha Nazarbaeva said in an interview published on April 21 that Kazakhstan’s angry reaction to Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Borat” character had hurt the country’s image much more than the jokes themselves.

UPDATE: I’m assuming that this remark is coming out now because of the Eurasian Media Forum in Almaty. Ferghana.ru reports on all of the small scandals plaguing this year’s event.
