Jonathan P sent along this update on the “indedependent” inquiry into the violence in Andijon.
Analysis of materials on this stage of investigation shows that Andijan events were thoroughly planned and organised action of international radical powers, which aimed to overthrow constitutional regime and establish Caliphate.
The release of Foreign Ministry said that the acts were organised and carried out by international organisations like Islamic Movement of Turkestan (former Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan), Hizb-ut Tahrir and one of its branches Akramiy.
It was determined that some 20 armed groups, including from 5 to 20 people, were created and they were united into six main groups. These groups have their own attack objects.
The release said that the weapons were brought to Andijan before attacks and it was revealed that some foreign citizens participated in attacks.
This doesn’t mesh with other information from sources I trust more, but it does entirely suit the Uzbek government’s needs.

hey, help me here: am i missing something? akramiya just became a “branch” of hizb-ut-tahir? this just gets better and better.

Right, but Hizb-ut-Tahir is an actual organization. Akramiya, we have kind of established, is not. Is there some kind of official tie?
It makes perfect sense along the lines of Uzbek propoganda, since after all graffitti painting and potholes are also caused by Hizb-ut-tahir (they have such a catchy name, after all).
Akram Yuldashev was apparently a member of HT way back. Word is he didn’t much care for their ideas and left to do his own thing.

Yuldashev hasn’t been a member of HT since there was a hammer and sickle flying over Tashkent. Akramiyyah is an informal association of businessmen who follow Yuldashev’s philosophy that Muslim businessmen should pool their resources together for the common good, though there are some accounts they allow drug and alcohol use amongst their membership.
