This election was for the national assembly, which will draft the Constitution. Then, in August I believe, they will have a referendum on the issue. Even though the Sunnis are a minority, and they didn't turn out in as high proportions, they could still easily deflect the new Constitution. They realized just in this day that they should still be involved in the country, because it is in their interest. So even though the Shiites will take most of the assembly, they must still afford rights to everyone. After the passing, then they'll have the election for the new government come... Hurray. Hope the aftermath goes well (no apparent fraud ) and that the winner reconizes the need to not disenfranchise the losers and non voters. After watching the recent 'Frontline' on terrorism in Europe, I don't think the violence will stop in Iraq. I think they were right in reporting that the jihadist are saying if you want some real good training in terrorism the place to go is Iraq. You can make bombs, deploy them and explode them then see how the efficiency was. You can kill just about anybody and say it is for Islam. Then we can assign you to the US or EU or Russia or ?. Afghanistan. Ukraine. Iraq... these have been a hectic few months. The C-Span program was great, I ended up watching the rerun as well. But it really made me begin to reminisce about the past few years, and where the world has come since that terrible September day in 2001.
